DWS Amsterdam, short for Door Wilskracht Sterk, was one of the Netherlands’ top clubs in the 1960s. They won the Eredivisie in 1964 and participated in European competitions, before eventually merging into FC Amsterdam and fading from prominence. They played at the historic Olympisch Stadion in Amsterdam.
Leeds United faced DWS in the 1968–69 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup quarter-finals. Leeds won 2-1 on aggregate, grinding out the result in a tight two-legged tie that contributed to their eventual European success that season.
